Description

The R0302 Ag/AgCl reference electrode is an essential tool for high-precision electrochemical analysis. Designed for durability and stability, it utilizes a glass body construction with a refillable internal chamber, allowing researchers to maintain the electrolyte concentration (3.5M KCl) for long-term consistency.

The integration of a porous Teflon (PTFE) frit as the liquid junction ensures a uniform and low leakage rate, which is critical for preventing contamination of the test solution while maintaining a stable electrical connection. Its standard 6mm outer diameter ensures seamless compatibility with most commercial electrochemical workstations and laboratory-scale testing hardware.

Features

  • High Potential Stability: Delivers a consistent and reproducible reference potential with minimal drift over time.
  • Refillable Design: Features a top sealing port for easy replenishment of the 3.5M KCl internal electrolyte, extending the electrode’s lifespan.
  • Chemical-Resistant Junction: The porous Teflon (PTFE) frit provides excellent chemical resistance and prevents clogging compared to traditional ceramic junctions.
  • Universal Compatibility: Designed with a standard 6mm OD to fit CHI, Metrohm, Autolab, and other major electrochemical workstation cell holders.

Reference Electrode Potential Selection Guide

Reference Electrode Name Electrode Structure Potential (V vs. SHE) Common Applications Pros & Cons
Saturated Calomel Electrode (SCE) Hg/Hg2Cl2/Saturated KCl 0.242V Neutral, Acidic Recommended for use below 40°C; cannot be used in alkaline environments.
Silver/Silver Chloride Electrode (Ag/AgCl) Ag/AgCl/3.5M KCl 0.205V Neutral, Acidic Excellent stability. Avoid use with HNO3 or ions such as Br-I-NH4+, and CN-.
Mercury/Mercuric Oxide Electrode (Hg/HgO) Hg/HgO/1M KOH 0.098V Alkaline High sensitivity and fast response. Recommended for use below 40°C.
Mercury/Mercurous Sulfate Electrode (Hg/Hg2SO4) Hg/Hg2SO4/Sat. K2SO4 0.656V Sulfuric acid & Sulfate solutions Use below 40°C. Note: High negative temperature coefficient and thermal hysteresis.
Non-Aqueous Silver Ion Electrode (Ag/Ag+) User-prepared - Non-aqueous / Organic systems Potential depends on the specific organic electrolyte and Ag+ concentration used.
